In the tapestry of time, there are moments that call upon us to pause, reflect, and take purposeful action. April is one such month – a month dedicated to child abuse prevention, a time when we collectively come together to honor our children, our future, and commit to safeguarding their well-being. As your Navajo County Attorney, I am fervently dedicated to child advocacy. I invite you to join me in cherishing and protecting the lives of our most vulnerable – our children – during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
A Time of Reflection. April serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of reflection and action. It compels us to look inward, recognize our shared responsibility, and take meaningful steps to prevent child abuse.
Celebrating Our Children. Child Abuse Prevention Month is not only a call to action; it's a celebration of the potential, innocence, and promise of children. It's a time to acknowledge their worth and champion their rights.
Raising Awareness. By dedicating a month to child abuse prevention, we elevate awareness to new heights. We shine a spotlight on the issue, ensuring that its magnitude is recognized. The Navajo County Family Advocacy Center is raising awareness in our communities month with “Pinwheels for Prevention.” With participating businesses, the FAC has placed 150 pinwheels around Show Low and Pinetop, representing the 150 physically abused children served at the FAC in 2024. Outside of Summit Healthcare in Show Low are 760 pinwheels representing all children who were victims of abuse in Navajo and Apache counties last year. These visual reminders of childhood and abuse fluttering across Navajo County this month will spark questions and important conversations.
Supporting Child Advocacy Centers. Child Advocacy Centers, like the Navajo County Family Advocacy Center, play a pivotal role in preventing child abuse. By supporting these centers, we contribute to a world where children are heard, protected, and supported. It’s not too late to donate up to $938 (if filing jointly) to the FAC, keeping your tax dollars local, helping local children experiencing abuse and neglect, and receiving a dollar-for-dollar refund through the Arizona charitable tax credit donation program. Child Abuse Prevention Month is a rallying cry – an opportunity for us to unite as a community and embrace our responsibility to protect and cherish our children. I am dedicated to using my voice to raise awareness, advocate for children, and support the Navajo County Family Advocacy Center. I invite you to join me in this endeavor. Let us come together this month, and every month beyond, to honor our children, take meaningful action, and create a world where every child grows up in an environment of safety, love, and boundless possibility. Together, we can be the architects of a brighter, safer future for generations to come.
